Today was game day.
And as one of the captions for UConn, I take game day very serious.
My old roommates lasted one month with me before moving instantly moving due to my game day attitude.
Every game day I eat the same thing for breakfast, do the same hairstyle, and listen to the same pre game music.
And now i'm cursed, because I've tricked myself into believing this is the only way I'll play good, so I'm too scared to break a game day ritual.
And one every team I've played for I always make sure to have #11.
It's my lucky number since I've started the sport and I've never been another number.

"BECCA!" I hear Liv scream from the kitchen.
I walk down the hall to see what she wants from me.
I am met with Liv and Pres decked out in UConn merch.
Liv has her dirty blonde hair in pig tails, one blue and one red.
She's wearing one of my jerseys from last year and a blue tutu.
Preston has his face painted with UConn colors, and a hoodie he bought at the merch store.
They've both know that no matter what, on game days they have to be dressed head to toe in UConn drip.
And that tradition started ever since the first game of mine they ever came to, freshmen year..
when they didn't wear any merch and we got crushed by the other team.
I blamed the loss on them and they definitely learned their lesson.
"Ready to go?" Liv asks.
I nod my head.
"Let me just grab my water!" I say as I fill up a water bottle.

The roar of a packed stadium echoed as my team walked out of the tunnel.
Fans from Boston packed half of the seats to support our appointments BU.
But UConn's side was energized with life.
I could feel the moment playing in my head.
And every game in a packed stadium for UConn—I can't help feel like:
I made it.
"Vyennie!" I hear someone shout.
Every player on the team has a nickname that we create for them.
But lucky for me I have multiple.
And Hannah, I swear makes me a new one every time we talk.
"What's up?" I ask GiGi who yelled my name.
"Warmups." She says with a smirk, knowing I totally forgot.
I nod and the two of us begin to lead our team warmups.

Boston University is one of our biggest rivals this season.
I stand at the center of the field, ready for kick off.
And the second the ref blows the whistle—it's game time.
