Chapter 27 | sudden

A/n: apparently sook is Australian slang so I'll provide a translation. Basically it means a soft, slightly clingy and timid person. Saying "you're such a sook" basically means "you're so soft"

You stood in front of the computers, watching the screens showing misa, Light and his dad.

What the fuck?

A stalker? Since when was Misa being stalked? Why did she think this was a stalker kidnapping? And why was light acting all... stupid? Saying he's sure he's innocent? But just a while ago he was-

Wait...

Where were Ryuk and Misa's shinigami? Shouldn't they be in the room with them?

"Where has all this suddenly come from?" Matsuda asked.

"Has anyone checked if Misa was actually being stalked before all this?" Aizawa added.

"I've checked that, she wasn't being stalked. I don't know where this sudden change in behaviour came fro-"

L glanced at you. He figured it out.

"Uh, L?"  Matsuda said.

"Um- anyway... we've been asking these questions for weeks now. The fact is, Kira is killing again and the three of them are still in custody... that puts light in the grey... but..."

"But what? That should prove his innocence" Aizawa said.

L couldn't mention anything about the death notes, or deity involvement. He knew, you knew. That was it, there was nothing you could do about it until you actually HAD the death notes. This was tricky...

L sighed, trying to think of a solution. He knew full well now he had to cease the death notes somehow, but he had no idea where they were. And with limited power from you down in this realm, there was only so much he could do.

"L..." you said.

He turned to face you.

"Can we, talk?"

He got up, following you out onto the balcony.

"What are we gonna do? This is the part where we get the books but we don't know where they are" you said.

"Can't one of the Kami tell us?" L asked.

"They've been watching us, not light. There's no telling where he's hidden one and who he's given the other to"

"That's frustrating... there's not some kind of magic for this?"

"Death Notes are part of the Shinigami realm, not the Aether. I can't track it. The most I can do is carry my mirror around and hope it picks up on some kind of energy from the book. Kind of like a metal detector" you explained.

"Damn... I guess we just have to deal with Light and his dad and Misa first, move into the new taskforce and start tracking the new Kira. Once we find this kira we have one book, the other is the problem..."

"Where would someone hide something like that?"

You both stood there thinking about it for a moment, trying to draw up some conclusion that could lead you to the book. It was a necessary to find this one before Light it Misa could get back to it.

"Somewhere far away from any of their homes... not in a busy area in case someone else picks it up. Somewhere secluded, somewhere well hidden" L said.

"Somewhere that won't get damaged either. So that illuminates anywhere tall or exposed to the rain or wind" you added.

"It's probably sealed in something, to keep it somewhat safe. But it's still be somewhere out of the way"

"Kind of like... a Forrest?"

"Exactly like a Forrest. That's the thing though... the only Forrest in the area is the suicide Forrest and that's massive. It could be anywhere. I wouldn't put it past Light to hide it there either since he literally kills people, he wouldn't be scared of stumbling on a victim"

That's right, that Forrest wasn't only huge and the only one in the area, but dangerous. The chance of finding a body rather high the deeper you go in. The energies around that place would be very heavy and sorrowful too. As a deity energies are something you can pick up on. And being in a place that's so full of tragedy would have the saddest, heaviest energy you'd ever felt. But that Forrest was probably the best option for where he hid it.

"It's in the area but not close to his house, it's massive and has hidden areas, if he buried it in a box or something it'd be hidden and way from rain and wind... it's probably the best shot. But that place is massive, and littered with victims... it's dangerous going in there" you said.

"It's the only thing we have going for us right now though. Maybe we can fix whatever is happening with Light and Misa now. Move into taskforce and when the next swing of the investigation is underway, you can fly over the Forrest with the mirror and see if it picks anything up. At least if you fly you'll be able to get past the tree coverage and fly back to the city by sight" L suggested.

It'd be a daunting task. But it had to be done. It was a smart plan using flight, you'd have to be careful in the area though.

"Sweetheart you're a genius as always..." you smiled, caressing his cheeks and placing a peck on his lips.

He gave you a shy smile at the action, starting to get used to kisses and affection at this point in the relationship.

"It'll be a daunting task but it's our best shot. Let's do it"

"Alright, I have a plan I need to talk to lights dad about that will hammer home weather or not Light and Misa really have lost their memory of Kira. After that I'll release all three of them and we can get this next part of the case started" L said.

"Awesome, hopefully everything goes smoothly"

You turned to head back inside, when L spoke up again.

"And- Uh..."

You turned to face him.

"I think you should... kiss me again"

You smiled, laughing under your breath. What a sook, something told you now that he'd gotten more comfortable he was going to be rather clingy. You wrapped you arms around his waist, and he slipped is around your back. When his hands bushed in between your shoulder blades, you squirmed.

"Sorry, wings and the area around them are sensitive. That's where my wings would in in my true form" you giggled.

"Interesting information..." he smirked.

"Oh gods, you're going to use this to tease me aren't you?"

"What, me? No never..."

"That was dripping with sarcasm, I'm watching you... just wait until you get wings and I'll get my pay back"

Now the thought was in your head, you couldn't wait for that. You wondered how he'd react to that sensation. Would his spine tingle? Would he squirm? Would he laugh? Looks like the first thing you'll be doing when he gets wings is stroke them.

"Enough about wings, what about that kiss?" He smiled.

You playfully rolled your eyes, leaning in for another kiss.
