Chapter 7, Lunch Date
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
" I've actually been thinking about joining baseball and doing something with my life, how's your job going Cassandra? "
~ Scarlett's POV ~
Yesterday went by in a blur, I sighed as I sat up.
Jaden and I had a great time together, the memory of him falling down the stairs replayed in my head, I allowed a chuckle slip through my lips.
I walked to my bathroom and brushed my teeth.
I sat on my bed and laid on my back, today my mom was coming to visit me.
I didn't tell anyone but Layla and Cora this, but I've decided to join the baseball team.
Tonight I was going to ask my father to bring me to a practice, in my head I was already having my name screamed by crowds.
I remember my nickname from whenever I pitched.
I got up and grabbed my baseball, pretending to throw it and whisper-scream.
I did a little victory dance and began to chant my nickname.
"Pitch Perfect! Pitch Perfect!"
As I did a full 360, I stopped dead in my tracks.
My mom was standing there with her sister, I jumped into her arms happily.
She twirled me around, making me giggle.
As she set me down, I hugged her tightly.
"I missed you mittens."
My mom said as she placed her hands on my shoulders, I smiled at her and returned the words.
"Hi Cass."
I said dryly, I wasn't about to waste anymore breath here.
I got quickly dressed and did my hair, as I grabbed my phone, I got a new message.
Wannabe #2
Good morning, text me after you hang out with your mom :)
Will do <3
Scarlett's Outfit
I fixed my hair, I didn't bother placing it in any hairstyle so I left it down.
I walked downstairs and greeted my father, he took off his cap and placed it on my head before leaving the house.
"I got you a gift mittens."
Mom said as she dug around her purse, she's been calling me mittens ever since I was four when I had stolen her winter mittens and placed them on my feet.
She pulled out a white marble notebook, I squealed and grabbed it.
I hugged her tightly and whispered many thank yous, I secretly wrote songs just like my mom.
Except I wanted to keep them for myself, I wanted to write so I could express my emotions.
I placed the book inside of my bag and grabbed a red glitter pen, Cassandra didn't even look my way.
Good, let's keep it that way.
As we left the house and got into my mom's car, we began to speak about different things.
My mom has been writing music for Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Megan Thee Stallion.
She even got three separate videos of them saying hi to me, I smiled and thanked her.
As we arrived to a diner, I started feeling my phone vibrate.
Stay safe, call if anything
I smiled at the text and placed my phone back into my purse, my mom parked her car and we walked into the diner.
We took a booth, my mom sat next to her sister so I was swimming in my seat basically.
"So, have you decided to do anything whilst you're here Scarlett Elizabeth?"
I cringed at my name, I only ever went by Scarlett because Elizabeth was my middle name but to Cassandra it was important to use both names.
I nodded slightly and skimmed through the menu.
I didn't want to make eye contact, I heard Medusa turns people into stone that way.
"I didn't think you'd actually find something, in my head you were an overweight couch potato that would rather lay in bed."
I rolled my eyes and scoffed, my mom hit Cassandra's arm and looked at me with apologetic eyes.
" I've actually been thinking about joining baseball and doing something with my life, how's your job going Cassandra? "
This was a low blow only because I knew she got laid off two days prior due to drinking on the job, I didn't feel the need to apologize for my words.
But a small apology slipped through my lips when my mother raised her eyebrows.
"This is what happens when you allow your young adolescent daughter live with your ex, she becomes a disrespectful, vile creature."
I rolled my eyes and thanked the waiter for bringing our drinks, I took a sip from my iced caramel frappe.
"Having caffeine at fourteen? Unacceptable, as her mother you must do something about this!"
God does she have an off button? Or better yet, a mute button?
My mom sighed and ignored her words, she knew I didn't drink coffee on a regular basis.
My head was clouded with Jaden, this wasn't on the agenda.
The lunch date dragged on until the sun began to set, mom dropped me off at home and kissed my forehead goodbye.
As she drove off, I watched as Cora and Layla run outside and tackle me to the ground.
"What did I do to deserve that?"
I groaned out as I sat up, the two girls laugh.
"We missed you Scar."
Cora said happily, Layla nodded her head in agreement.
I decided we should pull an all nighter, we grabbed a few blankets, snacks and our portable charger.
This was what life was supposed to be about, it was all chill.
