Hide and Seek

As a kid,
Hide and seek was my favorite game.
Being the hider was my favorite though.
I liked the thrill of trying not to be found
Finding the perfect spot where no one found me,
(That one spot in the back corner in my basement)
Everyone always got mad because I was so good
They never found the spot
And I hid there every time
What fools they were.
I was right beneath their noses.

I hated being the seeker.
Trying to find everyone was really difficult.
Maybe that’s how they all felt with me.
At the end I was able to find them all
But they’d all be making fun of me for taking so long
I had to laugh with them so I wouldn’t cry

Hiding is easier than seeking
Everything is easier when you hide.
I learned that very early
I was so young when I started to hide
It’s a little sad
A kid shouldn’t be wanting to be in hiding
But that was always me,
The hider
