The Monday after the dreaded trip home, Taehyung didn't show up for humanities class. Jungkook sent him a playful text scolding him for his absence but never received a response. He tried not to overthink it. That Wednesday, Taehyung didn't show up to their class again. Given how dedicated Taehyung was to his schooling, Jungkook worried that he had gotten sick. He sent him three new messages during class, all unanswered. He even looked for him around campus, but Taehyung wasn't at any of his usual spots. By the time he was finished with his last class, Jungkook had thirteen unanswered messages to Taehyung on his phone and was feeling foolish. It was clear that Taehyung was avoiding him.

He knew that Taehyung's actions weren't without reason, but the realization still tied his stomach in knots. Fueled by what his therapist would later call 'fear of abandonment,' Jungkook walked to the nearest flower shop before his session and purchased a dozen roses as an elaborate apology. They sat on the leather couch next to him during his session, bouncing slightly every time his legs did.

"When are you going to give those to him?" his therapist asked, after being informed about the past weekend's events.

Jungkook chewed on his thumbnail. "Right after I leave here," he confirmed.

His therapist crossed her slender legs and leaned back comfortably. "That's a rather romantic gesture, don't you think?"

Jungkook froze. "I guess," he finally replied, staring at the roses he had impulsively purchased.

"Does Taehyung know how you feel about him?"

Jungkook looked at his feet. "I've never told him."

"Do you think a gesture as romantically suggestive as this one is a wise idea?" The therapist reached forward and held a rose gingerly in her hands. "You don't think it will scare him off?"

"Why would it?" Jungkook blurted out, but his brain was finally catching up to his heart and he realized how foolish giving those roses to Taehyung may be.

"Taehyung is still coming to terms with thinking of you as a friend. Adding romance as a factor could cause him to push back even more so than he already is."

"Right," Jungkook whispered, feeling even more foolish than he had felt when the session had started.

"What do you like about Taehyung?"

"What?" Jungkook's head snapped up. The question had caught him off guard.

"You're very confident that Taehyung is your soulmate. Soulmates have an undeniable connection, but that connection isn't love. Love can lead to the realization of that connection, or that connection can lead to love; for you, it was the latter. The moment you accepted that Taehyung is your soulmate, you felt that connection. So tell me...what do you like about Taehyung?"
